My Story

HeadshotThroughout my career, I have found that my ability to connect with others and my insatiable curiosity are my hallmark. Perhaps being born a twin was an omen of sorts, since I have long been fascinated by what makes us unique. Raised in Boston, home to so many prestigious medical institutions, I found my passion for health and well-being early, and it has grown and taken many forms over the years.

My career began on the front lines of medicine, where I gathered data for orthopedic surgeons in Seattle, co-authored articles for medical journals, and coordinated clinical trials in electrophysiology, injury prevention, and pediatric orthopedics at various hospitals across the country. These public-health experiences inspired me to enroll in the Tufts University School of Medicine Health Communications Program, where I was named an Albert Schweitzer Fellow.

From there it was off to the broadcasting world, where my medical expertise landed me at ABC News. I produced material for Drs. Timothy Johnson and Nancy Snyderman’s breaking news, special health segments, and documentaries. Later, after relocating to Los Angeles in 2002, I produced women’s health programming at Lifetime TV and Discovery Health.

My producing interests and love of storytelling led me to join the Food Network as a producer for Everyday Italian with Giada de Laurentiis, Roker on the Road, and Recipes for Success. While working on these shows, I coordinated production, developed stories, and helped shape editorial direction.

In 2006, I moved to the Bay Area and became a senior copywriter and producer for Publicis Modem, writing medical content and producing multimedia for a variety of websites, including Amgen and Wyeth’s Enbrel.com and InsideRA.com. Later, at Elan Pharmaceuticals, I redesigned its website and managed corporate communications ranging from producing the annual report to working with HBO as the liaison for The Alzheimer’s Project. I continued in the field of biotechnology, next producing an educational video for Proteus Biomedical and managing Genentech’s PR and Advocacy activities in ophthalmology. I leveraged my journalism experience while at the global design consultancy IDEO, where I served as an internal journalist on various projects.

Now a staff reporter at the San Francisco Chronicle, I continue to find new ways to inform and entertain readers with engaging features. My goal is to continue building and expanding my range of creative expertise into the ever-changing digital arena.
